In Texas, drivers who get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or drugs cause a substantial number of auto accidents with injuries and death. This is exacerbated during the summer when more people are traveling, going to events and generally being out and about.
State authorities like the Texas Department of Transportation, lawmakers and law enforcement are sufficiently concerned about the number of drunk driving accidents that happen on state roads that a campaign was initiated to educate drivers as to the risk. Anecdotes of people’s loss due to a drunk driving crash and the statistics are clear. Still, that might not prevent many drivers from this behavior and causing a crash.
Campaign hopes to stop drivers from driving drunk
Statistics show that in 2023, there was an average of 65 auto collisions and three fatalities per day with alcohol as a factor. One couple related the story of how their college football-playing son died at 21 when he was hit while he changed a tire. This tragedy could have been avoided had the driver of the vehicle that hit him chosen not to drink and drive.
The summer months – July and August – are the worst for deaths because of drunk drivers. Notably, there was a reduction in drunk driving fatalities in 2023, a relatively substantial one of 15% when compared to the prior year.
Regardless, Texas continues with its dubious record of having at least one fatality on its roadways every day going back nearly 24 years.
Drunk driving accidents require tailored strategies
These types of crashes require a specific strategy to make a full recovery. There are several factors that are hallmarks of drunk driving auto accidents. Recognizing them is vital when considering moving forward with a claim to hold drunk drivers accountable and make a full recovery in every way.
